Those Good for Nothing...Academy Awards?

What are The Academy Awards good for anyway? Ron Greenfield explores the question in his latest blog post: The Academy Awards, Not Lost in Translation.

"There are many who say the Oscars are a popularity contest, designed not to award good films, but films that make the industry look good and hit the right notes with the movie-going public. In short, a public relations and media extravaganza, a lot of hype with little substance. Well, yes, there is some truth to that, but has anyone ever thought or considered what this translates into – for the winners as well as the losers and nominees in general?" - Read more at: http://www.aspectsofentertainment.com/academy-awards-lost-translation/#sthash.kmXeJS2I.dpuf

Art worth Dying For?

The Monument's Men tells the true story of the men and women who saved millions of works of art during Hitler's reign of terror.  In his most recent blog post, Ron Greenfield explores the history behind the movie and answers the question, "What is the importance of art?"

THE MONUMENTS MEN
Hitler’s intention was to create a museum, the Linz Museum, that would house the great works of art that had been stolen, beginning in 1935 and continuing as World War II was drawing to a close in 1945. They were middle-aged museum curators and artists who volunteered to save these priceless works of art.

The men and women of the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives Program were the first to see the value and importance of saving these works...

On another level, The Monuments Men is a welcome break from the glut of effects-driven movies, car chases, explosions, or the doom of earth by alien forces. It goes into fresh territory, with a captivating story, both in its attention to detail and the scope of actual events. Like Robert Edsel, the author, one comes away with the feeling that Clooney’s passion and sincerity and the need to tell this story is the basis for making this movie. It is a film not to be missed.  Read more at: http://www.aspectsofentertainment.com/monuments-men/#sthash.1y7DcOjP.dpuf

We're talking about invasion, Baby!

It happened nearly fifty years ago, but Ron Greenfield makes it feel like yesterday...

The Beatles Invade America

The country was still in mourning with the assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963. The era of Camelot had come to a close. America needed something that was different, rousing, and uplifting. Paul, John, George, and Ringo took the colonies by storm with their shaggy-hair and musicianship. They ushered in a new era, giving a voice to the upheaval taking place, the restlessness of a new generation looking to break loose and test the waters in new directions.

RIP...

Ron Greenfield pays tribute to one of the greats. Rest in Peace, Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

"Phillip Seymour Hoffman: An Actor's Actor I admired him tremendously as an actor because I always felt he was a person who took his art and craft seriously, no matter the project or the role. The tragedy is that we lost a great actor from an apparent drug overdose, cutting short the career of a man who wasn’t only a great actor, but one of the best there was." - Read more at: http://www.aspectsofentertainment.com/phillip-seymour-hoffman-actors-actor/#sthash.qCBGFJHn.dpuf

Random Thoughts and Observations from Ron Greenfield...

In his latest blog post, entertainment expert Ron Greenfield is quite pointed with his random observations.

THE GRAMMYS, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, and DALLAS BUYERS CLUB: Random Thoughts and Observations.

THE GRAMMYS: It’s not necessary to keep telling the audience how “awesome The Grammys are while we’re watching
it. Just put on a good show. That’s all. We get it. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND: Like in E.T.,the whole concept of what is alien or foreign to us is seen as friendly, not something to be feared or annihilated, but embraced. SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE: Where is the next Gilda Radner, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, or Tina Fey?. We just have to find them and let them infuse this show with a new kind of inventiveness. DALLAS BUYERS CLUB: Fresh off his win at the Golden Globes, I think McConaughey may just have the inside track and buzz in his favor to pull off an upset. - See more at: http://www.aspectsofentertainment.com/grammys-close-encounters-third-kind-saturday-night-live-dallas-buyers-club-random-thoughts-observations/
